The VAK191 was developed as an answer to a 1961 NATO requirement for a VSTOL-capable successor to the Fiat G.91. First flight was in1971.
Unlike the Harrier, the VAK191 concept had two dedicated lift engines in addition to a single lift/cruise engine with swiveling nozzles.
